I'm sort-of a local, living in Oakland. I ran the race too, for the second time. I can confirm that the longs hill (or series of hills) in Golden Gate Park is the killer. That's where I fell behind schedule, too.
You'll get another huge PR on a flatter course (and most of them are), especially if you can keep the cramps at bay. Have a great remainder of your vacation. Oh, and if you like scenic marathons and don't mind some hills, give Big Sur a try!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1666998966662846587.post-35494967216527814152009-07-27T10:35:47.902-07:002009-07-27T10:35:47.902-07:00You have the perfect running attitude. Very well executed race, very hard to train for a hilly race where you live. Hope you have a great vacation with the family. As a father of three you are a brave man taking three small kids on a trip across the country. And your report also reminds me how what we do as marathoners is more than just the result on any given day. It's awesome that you were able to find the positives in the race even at the end of the race when it's clear that your legs were in so much pain.

Meanwhile, as partial as I am to my hometown marathon, I will agree with you about the scenery. Rest up buddy. I look forward to reading about your future training and racing. The Puerto Rican Kenyanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13806727721748444970noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1666998966662846587.post-83418854813554271072009-07-26T19:40:17.799-07:002009-07-26T19:40:17.799-07:00That is so awesome! 46 minutes!!

Even for races that I don't PR, if I can honestly write a RR with your genuine pleasure... it will be a good race. Bring home girl to Philly in November!
